By Way of Introduction
Many people hesitate to visit a church unless they know what it will be like when they go. Perhaps we can help you know what to expect when you visit the church of Christ. Our Worship is Simple and Devout
Our services are conducted in a quiet, worshipful atmosphere. They are designed to draw the worshipers closer to God and to provide enduring Spiritual Strength. Our worship consists only of those elements which the New Testament reveals as having been used as worship by the church in the days of the apostles. We sing and pray, partake of the Lord's supper, have the Word of God preached for our instruction, and give of our means for the spreading of the Gospel, and caring for the poor. In all of this we seek to maintain the attitude which Christ taught when He said: "God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship in Spirit and Truth." (John 4:24)
Our Authority Is The Bible Alone
Our source of authority is that which is found only in the inspired Scripture. Therefore, we seek to be governed in all that we do by God's Holy Bible. Since the Scriptures are sufficient for our every need (II Timothy 3:16-17), our preaching and teaching contains only that which is commanded in the Bible.
Our People Are Christians Only
The division in the religious world today is far different from the unity enjoyed by the early Christians, before traditionalism and distinctive names divided them. Believing such division to be contrary to the Scriptures, we have no Denominational organization or name, doctrine or creed. Following the teachings of Christ and His apostles, individually we are known as Christians, collectively as a church of Christ.
You Will Never Be Embarrassed
You visit us as a welcome and respected guest. At the end of the sermon those wishing to become Christians are invited to step to the front of the auditorium to let their wishes be known. But never is anyone singled out for public attention. People are urged from the pulpit to accept the gospel and to yield its call with deep spiritual conviction.
You Will Find A Friendly Spirit
We believe that friendliness is a natural attitude among people who truly love God. Our visitors, who always receive a warm welcome, appreciate the courtesy and cordiality of these Christians. We truly hope you will accept our invitation to meet with us soon. You will be benefited by coming. You will find a list of our services inside.
What is The Church of Christ?
One question that comes to mind when visiting the Church of Christ is "What is the Church of Christ and who are these people that want to be just Christians?" For this and other related topics visit What is the Church of Christ.
Traditions
There are all kinds of traditions we live with everyday. We have national traditions like the National Anthem at ballgames, The Pledge of Allegiance in school and Thanksgiving. We also have family traditions which vary from family to family. In our family when you have a birthday you get the meal and dessert of your choice. The whole family gets together to eat and celebrate. We did it with our children and now it continues with theirs. Traditions are good things generally. They remind us of who we are and give us a sense of continuity and history as time passes.
Traditions in the church can be good too. For instance we get together on Wednesday night and have Bible Study for all ages. There is no command to do this. It is a convenient time to meet together and carry out the command of God to study and teach His Word. Sunday however is different in that we have scriptures that show us that meeting on the first day of the week was not optional (Acts 20:7; I Corinthians 16:1-2, NASU). Meeting together on the first day of the week is ordained of God. The teachings of the Lord and the Apostles are even spoken of as being traditions...but they are God ordained traditions. (II Thessalonians 3:6, NASU)
The traditions which are unhealthy and are condemned in scripture are the traditions of men that are taught as doctrines. Jesus said to some men of His day, "Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men." and "You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition ”. Traditions in the church are fine but not when we bind them on one another as doctrines or as a test of spirituality.
In the end, things like four part harmony, our order of worship and invitations at the end of the sermon are comfortable. They aid us in passing on our faith from one generation to the next. Traditions like these are useful and healthy as long as over time we do not confuse them with the teachings of Christ.
